Murphy Compton Consulting

About Us

Patricia Murphy – Founder

Patricia Murphy founded Murphy Compton Consulting in 2020 following a distinguished 25-year career with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA), where she served as Director of the Compliance Division. In this role, she oversaw compliance monitoring for more than 2,000 affordable housing developments representing approximately 250,000 units across Texas.

Throughout her career at TDHCA, Patricia played a key role in developing the agency's compliance monitoring procedures and regulations. She authored many of the Department's compliance rules and provided guidance, training, and leadership to agency staff and affordable housing professionals throughout the state.

Patricia brings extensive expertise in affordable housing compliance, particularly the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. Her knowledge of Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Code, federal regulations, HUD guidance, and the Texas Administrative Code provides a strong foundation for the consulting services offered by Murphy Compton Consulting.

Her contributions extend beyond Texas. Patricia served on the board for the Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) designation, contributing to the development of its certification exam. She has also been a frequent speaker and panelist at conferences hosted by the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) and the Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers (TAAHP), sharing her expertise and perspective on affordable housing compliance.

Outside of her professional career, Patricia has dedicated much of her time to supporting children and families in need. Having welcomed numerous foster children into her home over the years, she remains a passionate advocate for vulnerable populations and stronger communities. This commitment led her to found Housing Support Services Alliance (HSSA), a nonprofit organization that provides enhanced on-site supportive services to Texas’ affordable multifamily properties and works one-on-one with residents to prevent evictions. Family ownership

Founded in 2020 by Patricia Murphy, Murphy Compton Consulting began as an independent consulting practice built on her decades of experience in affordable housing compliance.

As the company grew, Patricia welcomed members of the Compton family to the team, beginning with her niece, Anna, followed by her sister, Eileen, and nephews, Nick and Ryan. What began as a one-person operation gradually evolved into a family-run business.

This growth inspired the transition from Murphy HTC to Murphy Compton Consulting, a name that reflects the family behind the firm and our shared commitment to providing knowledgeable, reliable, and personalized compliance services.

Today, we continue to build on the foundation Patricia established, combining decades of experience with a collaborative, family-oriented approach to serving our clients.
